The low-cost high-speed train is called
The low-cost high-speed train between Madrid and Barcelona is now less than a month away. The first journey is scheduled for April 6TH.
RENFE's new low-cost high-speed train is called AVLO and unlike the current AVE, it will be painted purple as its main colour, and will be complemented by three lines at its head in orange, white and light blue.
The railway company RENFE sells the AVLO only on the Internet, through its website: www.avlorenfe.com. It is necessary to register beforehand, but if you have RENFE user keys, they are useful for this page too.
On January 27th, tickets for this new low-cost high-speed train began to be sold; the company carried out a promotion and put 16,000 tickets on sale for 5 euros and the RENFE website collapsed, selling out in just under an hour.
Once this launch promotion was over, the average price of an AVLO ticket was between 30 and 40 euros. Basic tickets cost between 10 and 60 euros, depending on demand and timetables, and children under 14 accompanied by an adult will pay five euros for their ticket.
A high-speed LOW COST train
The operation of the AVLO is practically the same as that of the low-cost airlines. Travellers who want to travel with more comfort and flexibility can add benefits to their journey by paying a supplement, such as carrying a second suitcase or choosing a seat. What is not allowed, even with the payment of a supplement, is to transport your pet.
The new AVLO does not have one of the main guarantees of Renfe's conventional AVE, that of the voluntary commitment to punctuality, which does not exist in the low-cost high-speed train, although RENFE assures that it runs at the same speed as the AVE; the direct journey between Madrid and Barcelona is two and a half hours in most cases.
The new trains have 20% more seats than the current AVE trains, with 438 seats. This new low-cost high-speed train will only have tourist class and will not have a cafeteria either, otherwise there will be snack and drink vending machines distributed throughout the train.
In this way, high-speed trains will no longer be available only to business travellers, but university students from Barcelona will be able to travel to Madrid with little time and money.
