Scholarships to help you live your university experience in Barcelona

Once you have decided to start your university life outside your city or country, there are some basic things you need to take care of before you come to study in Barcelona, such as: 

• Make sure you know what your favorite dishes are, and pack plenty of food from home for the last few days.
• Visualize what you are going to pack, at least for the first 3 months, and it is not easy to pack a suitcase for 3 months.
• Create the perfect Spotify list for the trip with all the motivational songs you can think of.
• Decide whether you want to live in a student apartment or a university residence in Barcelona.

And something very important that sometimes is not taken into account, not because you are not interested, but because we don't know about it. These are scholarships or mobility aids that will allow you to live more comfortable or relaxed during your university stay in Barcelona.

There are many organizations, both public and private, that offer scholarships to university students. Some of them only help you to pay the registration fee, to get the school material or to pay for part of your stay in the city where you are going to study, without a doubt an injection of euros for the economy of a university student who moves out of his city or country.

In this article we are going to tell you about some of the aids that exist for mobility within Spain, which of course, are not the only ones, but at least you will know some that you will be able to apply for if you meet the requirements.

General and Mobility Scholarship

The General and Mobility Scholarship has been created for all university students, without exclusion, and you can apply for it from the first year of your degree. It is a public scholarship and one of the most popular.

As there are many university students interested in applying for it, the State has had to create certain criteria to filter the applications:

For example, if you are a Spanish national, or from a member state of the European Union, or from other non-EU countries if you or your parents work in Spain, another academic criterion is that depending on the studies you are going to take, the academic conditions vary, so that you can understand it better: for a student starting an undergraduate degree, he or she is required to enrol in a minimum of 60 credits, and in the case of a second year student, he or she must have passed 60% of the credits of the previous year in the case of technical education, or 80% of the credits in the rest of the education. There are also economic criteria that are calculated according to the family income level.

These scholarships range from approximately 1,590 euros and 5,825 euros, although for students from the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and the Balearic Islands they can be increased to 6,400 euros. 

Excellence Scholarship

These scholarships are not directly intended for mobility, but, whether you come to study in Barcelona or not, they are a great opportunity.

The Excellence Scholarships are awarded to first year university students who have achieved an average of Matrícula de Honor or the Extraordinary Bachillerato Awards.

Thanks to this aid you will be able to have the free matriculation of the first year of the career that you have chosen in most of the universities of Barcelona (you have to ask in the center where you are going to study if you have the opportunity to apply for it).
