Scholaraships to study at university

You plan to go to college and it's time to do the numbers to plan how to pay for your studies. Tuition, school supplies and transportation to the university are the expenses that a student who has opted for a university in her city will have. However, if near your family home you do not have the option of studying what you want, or even if you prefer to live the experience of studying in another city, you will have to add the cost of transport and the student residence where you will stay.

To help pay for your university studies, you have scholarships or mobility grants. Some of these scholarships are intended to help you pay your tuition, others provide an amount of money for school supplies and others contribute by paying part of your stay in the city where you are going to study.

You can request the General and Mobility Grant for all university students from the first year of the degree. It is a public scholarship and one of the most popular.

The criteria set for applying for one of these scholarships are the following:

• Have Spanish nationality, a member state of the European Union, or other non-EU countries in the event that the applicant or their parents work in Spain.
• For a bachelor's degree you must enroll for a minimum of 60 credits. A second-year student of these degrees must have passed 60% of the credits from the previous year in the case of technical courses, or 80% of the credits in the rest of the courses.
• The level of family income will also determine whether the student is eligible for the scholarship and the type of aid that the student can access.

These scholarships usually range between € 1,592 and € 5,828, although for students from the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and the Balearic Islands they can be increased to € 6,400.

SICUE program is a mobility program aimed at students from Spanish universities. This allows you to study part of your degree studies at a Spanish university other than yours. And the best thing is that all the credits taken at the destination university are immediately recognized in your transcript.

The Seneca scholarship is an aid program of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports to finance these exchanges.

As in any scholarship, there are some minimum requirements that you have to meet in order to be eligible, not only for the place, but also for financial aid:

• Have an average mark of 1.20 for technical degrees and 1.50 for the rest of university studies.
• Have a minimum of approved credits.
• That the subjects you enroll in at the new university are compulsory in your career (and you have not failed them in your home faculty)

The Seneca Grant provides a monthly aid of 500 euros and a travel aid of about 120 euros.
