Coming to study in Barcelona is a time to learn, but above all to enjoy. Now you are independent, and you must know when it is time to study and when it is time to go out with your friends or colleagues in your university residence in Barcelona. Only if you are able to keep a balance between the hours of study and the hours of leisure will you achieve your objectives and enjoy this experience intensely.
Do you want to start knowing how to achieve it? Write down these 5 tips to start your first year at the University of Barcelona in the best possible way.
1. Planning and organization
You are no longer at school with a timetable of 9am to 5pm, with mid-term exams, with final assessments... Now your time and attendance at class is organised by you and so you need to plan your days more than ever. Believe it or not, you have fewer hours to do twice as much work, work that requires more concentration.
You have to learn to prioritize between what is important and what is urgent. Not always what is urgent is important and vice versa but don't worry, with time you will discover how to organize both the hours and the tasks of the class. You must be very aware of taking your own notes, that will be your material to study in the exams, so the notes must be clear and organized.
2. Get to know your campus
The first few days of college you will be focused on meeting people and creating a group of friends and discovering who you have the most affinity with, but on the second day we advise you to take a tour of your college or campus, and locate yourself. We recommend that you locate the offices of your professors/tutors, the Vice-Dean and Dean of the Faculty. Look for the quietest study rooms, as well as the library. Now that you have more time, take advantage of it to have everything located and under control.
3. Talk to your teachers
Although we have already warned you that this is not the school, the teachers at the University may also know your name, even though the classes are almost 200 people. This will be different if you have come to study at a private university in Barcelona, as you will have a tutor for you who will guide and help you during the first year.
4. Lean on your roommates
Having a good group of friends or study group is very important, as you will need support during exam times, get together for work or ask them questions about them. This will help you learn to relate and work on skills such as teamwork, empathy, communication, etc.
5. Have fun and enjoy
The last, but most important of the tips. Everything is simpler than it seems at first. So relax, enjoy the experience little by little and it will become one of the best experiences of your life.
